Friar Oswald's Confession
monologue
In 2009 a huge hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver was discovered in a field in Staffordshire. Twelve centuries ago the monk who buried it has something to say.

Forgive me, Father, for I have sincerely overstepped the mark in striving to be virtuous.
Ever since I embarked on the monastic life it has been my constant study to shun worldliness. I eat no animal creature, fish, fowl or sweetmeats, drink nowt but water and succumb to the temptations of the flesh no more than once a day. Yet despite my exemplary bodily restraint, I suffer from a grievous spiritual fault. I am a somewhat overzealous Christian.
